  • Maximum daily mileage: 2-4
  • Terrain: Gentle with some uneven patches
  • Maximum elevation gain on some hikes: 250 feet
  • Trailbound weeklong trips in this category: Florida’s Ocean & Everglades

  • Maximum daily mileage: 4-8
  • Terrain: Gently rolling with uneven patches
  • Maximum elevation gain on some hikes: 500 feet
  • Trailbound weeklong trips in this category: NY Finger Lakes; Big Sur

  • Maximum daily mileage: 4-8
  • Terrain: Hilly with uneven patches, rocks, and roots
  • Maximum elevation gain on some hikes: 750 feet
  • Trailbound weeklong trips in this category: Washington; Tetons/Yellowstone**; Carolina Waterfalls; Minnesota; Sedona** (with the option for a more-strenuous Grand Canyon hike);

  • Terrain: Mountainous hikes with rocks and roots
  • Maximum elevation gain on some hikes: 1,000 feet
