Day 1

Lake Superior’s #1-rated beach

  • Travel to Bayfield, WI, nestled on Lake Superior’s shores — where Apostle Islands dot the horizon.
  • Settle into your spacious suite at the Bay Front Inn , featuring a deck with unsurpassed lake views, mini-frig, microwave, coffeemaker, flat-screen TV, phone, a/c, and in-town access to the lakefront, shops, and restaurants.
  • Relax with private, deck dining at Ethel’s, one of Bayfield’s most popular restaurants.

Day 2 - Apostle Island Exploration

Paddle through Superior’s sea caves

  • You’ll love our private, 7-hour Apostle Island adventure on board two 21-foot boats — with 6 women on each — piloted by experienced captains who also serve as our guides. This sweeping island tour includes:

o Paddling along sea caves carved into billion-year-old sandstone.

o Photographing island lighthouses and a century-old shipwreck.

o Docking at a deserted island to stroll the "singing sand" of Julian Bay, voted Superior’s most beautiful beach by Lake Superior Magazine readers.

o Spotting eagles and scanning Basswood Island’s shores for black bears.

o Visiting a historic fish camp and hearing century-old fisherman stories.

o Swimming off the boat or along the shores of Lake Superior.

  • Enjoy dining at Good Thyme, delicious food in a grand, refurbished farmhouse.

Listen to waves lap the shore

Feel wind playing with your hair
and water tickling your feet as you sail

Day 3 - Madeline Island Interlude

The Apostle Islands are top rated for sailing

  • Ferry 20 minutes to Madeline Island, ranked by Smarter Travel as one of the world’s 10 most secret islands.
  • Hike the shoreline’s rock outcrops and verdant northwood forests at Big Bay State Park.
  • Enjoy free time on Madeline Island. Shop in a little harbor town, enjoy a walking tour, and learn the area’s fascinating history at a museum. Or relax at Big Bay Town Park...barefoot-it on the beach, bask in the sun, and canoe the lagoon.
  • After catching the ferry back to Bayfield, we’ll dine at Pier Plaza, on the lakefront.

Day 4 - Wind and Wheels

Try to glimpse one of the islands’ black bears

Choose between 2 great morning options:

o Sail Superior: Sail in the Apostle Islands, ranked by Sail magazine as one of the country’s 10 best sailing spots. Choose from 2 adventures with Dreamcatcher Sailing (run by John and Mary Theil, who also led our 2012 dogsled adventure Learn sailing basics on a 2-1/4 hour, hands-on adventure, or opt for a 4-hour sail along the mainland’s bluffs and sea caves.

o 2-Wheel-It on Madeline Island: Moped or bike Madeline Island’s quiet roads, savor a casual, harborside lunch at the Beach Club, stop by legendary Tom’s Burned Down Café for a laugh and drink, and satisfy your sweet tooth with ice cream from Grampa Tony’s.

Visit area orchards and berry-picking fields.

Savor afternoon free time:

  • Pick berries and apples at local orchards.
  • Visit Bayfield’s quaint shops and admire homes in this picturesque town.
  • Bike or hike five miles on the Brownstone Trail that hugs Lake Superior.
  • Relax on your private deck overlooking Superior.
  • Admire the yachts and sailboats moored at Bayfield’s two harbors.
  • Delight in delectables at the local ice cream shop.

Enjoy a beach bonfire and stargazing.

Following dinner at the popular Maggie’s, hike 1.5 miles on the Houghton Falls Trail, which winds through the Northwoods, into a canyon, and to rock outcrops offering perfect perches overlooking Superior.

Then, listen to waves lap the shore as we enjoy the glow and warmth of our beach bonfire — and our friendship. We’ll star gaze into the heavens as millions of stars twinkle in skies unmarred by city lights.

I still can’t believe the beauty of those rock formations and sea caves we kayaked through. This trip was pure enjoyment of God’s great earth. I can’t imagine what joy future trips will hold; bring it on! ~Little Bit
  • Didn’t even know that I needed to add sea cave kayaking to my bucket list until I did it. May have to do it again! ~Trouble
